AUBURN – Charles W. Keenan, 76, a resident of Oak Hill Road, died Monday evening at his home, following a long illness, with his family at his side.

He was born in Lewiston, Feb. 20, 1928, the son of Charles and Florence (Ward) Keenan and was educated in the schools of Lewiston.

He served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II in the African and European theater of operations.

On Nov. 24, 1951, he married the former Pauline M. Stone in Lewiston.

He was employed early in his life as a sexton at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Following his time spent in the service, he was for 30 years, a member of the Teamsters Union, having been employed as a truck driver for New England Gas Co. of Lewiston.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish.

His interests included hunting, fishing and mechanics. He was a talented tinkerer, working on small engines, cars and just about anything that needed repair.

The most important thing to Charles was his family members, taking care of them and the times spent with them.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years; one daughter, Ms. Judy Bower; four sons, Jeffery S. Keenan of Leeds, Charles W. Keenan III and his wife, Doreen, of Hebron, David M. Keenan of Buckfield, and Randy R. Keenan and his fiance, Marie Beaucage, of Minot; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Elizabeth and Charles W. Keenan IV, Ryan R. Jones and his wife, Rachel, of Etna, Ashley, Cara and Jared Bower; two sisters, Mrs. Joanne Swanson of California, and Mrs. Dwayne (Mary) Murray of San Jose, Calif.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Martin J. and James M. Keenan; and two sisters, Mrs. Kathleen McDonald and Mrs. Jane Bussiere.
