LEWISTON – Joseph A. Emond, 89, of Lewiston, died Sunday, Nov. 21, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Portland, Aug. 31, 1915, the son of Joseph and Delima Carrigan Emond. His mother died when he was two weeks old and was raised by his step-mother, who was also his aunt, Malvina Carrigan.

He was educated in Lewiston schools and was married May 31, 1941 to Lucille Bilodeau who predeceased him Aug. 4, 1993.

He was employed as an auto mechanic at McConaghy’s Garage on Sabattus Street for 23 years, then at Flock Buick for 13 years until his retirement in 1978.

He was a member of Holy Family Parish and was Past Worthy President of the Lewiston Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie #618. He also did volunteer work at the Brunswick Convalescent Center when his wife was a resident there.

He is survived by a daughter, Claire Bell, of Topsham; two sons, Julien A. Emond and wife, Diane, of Greene, and Normand R. Emond and wife, Judy, of Sabattus; five grandchildren, Mark Emond, of Lisbon Falls, Michael Emond, of Sanford, Andrew Bell, of Missoula, Mont., Kathleen Bell, of Alexandria, Va., and Joey Emond, of Auburn; three great-grandchildren, Erika, Apryl and Brynn Lucille; and a sister, Grace Anctil, of Auburn.
