Twelve brothers and sisters predeceased him.

He served in the U.S. Army and later in the U.S. Navy. In 1936, he married Winona Curtis and they had three children.

He married a second time on May 28, 1959, to Rachel Stevens, who survives him. He worked as a foreman in the Albany Felt Mill (now Tex Tech) in North Monmouth most of his adult life. He raised and trained horses, which was a hobby and a love.

He enjoyed going to the horse races at the old Lewiston Race Track.

After retiring and moving to Florida, the Pompano Beach Race Track was the place where he enjoyed going on occasion.

He was also an avid baseball fan and was delighted to know that the Red Sox won the World Series in his lifetime, again!
