TOPSHAM – Alice E. Smith, 85, formerly of Steep Falls died Wednesday, Oct. 13, at a Topsham health care facility.

She was born Oct. 5, 1919, in North Sebago, a daughter of Guy and Bertha (Gregory) Smith. She attended Steep Falls and Standish schools. She was a caregiver and had also worked at Gray Homestead in Southport and Driftwood Inn on Bailey Island. She also worked at Cornwall Industries in East Baldwin. She retired in 1999.

Miss Smith was a longtime member of Steep Falls Baptist Church and enjoyed reading and television.

She is survived by two nieces, Sharon LeGoff and her husband, Roger, of Denmark, Bertha Nason and her husband, Richard, of Otisfield; five nephews, Robert Durant, of Bailey Island, Lester Durant and his wife, Marie, of Cundy’s Harbor, Neil Durant, of Dolphin Island, Ala., David Estes, of West Baldwin and James Durant, of Maine; four great-nieces; six great-nephews; five great-great-nephews; and several cousins.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Anna Duren, Katherine Durant and Beulah Estes as well as her fiance, Roger Willis.
