LEWISTON – Lois T. Bartash, R.N., 89, of Rumford, died Saturday, June 19, at the Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston.
She was born in Denver, Colo. on Aug. 22, 1914, the daughter of John H. and Grace (Thurston) Malone. She attended Denver schools and received her nursing degree from the Denver Presbyterian Hospital. She was a registered nurse and an accomplished Concert Pianist. When she moved to Rumford, she worked with her husband in the Rumford Drug Store until opening Bartash Stationery Store in 1963 where she worked until retirement, when her son John J. Bartash, Jr. and wife, Barbara took over the family business.
She served with the U.S. Army Nurse Corps as a 2nd Lt. from Mar.5, 1943 to July 15, 1944.
She was a Communicant of St. Athanasius – St. John Church. She loved to garden and going to the Portland Symphony and the Boston Ballet.
She was married in Colorado Springs, Colo. to the late John J. Bartash who died in Rumford on June 10, 1968.
Survivors include son, John J. Bartash Jr. and wife, Barbara of Rumford; daughter, Susan L. Juffre of Pembroke, Mass.; four grandchildren, John J. Bartash III of Winthrop, Andrew A. Bartash of Farmington, Kathleen Juffre of North Conway, N.H. and Regina Juffre of Pembroke, Mass. and a very dear cousin, Betty Owen of Colo.
