FARMINGTON – Johnnie Maxine Knowles, 78, of Wilton, died Wednesday evening, March 24, at the Edgewood Rehabilitation & Living Center.
She was born May 11, 1925, in Pineapple, Ala., a daughter of John Kendrick and Lillian (Bargainier) Majors. She attended schools in Mobile, Ala., and on May 23, 1945, she married Elmer R. Knowles there.
Mrs. Knowles moved to Wilton with her husband after leaving Alabama, and returned throughout her life after living in New Hampshire, Delaware, and Florida.
She worked as a bank teller and customer representative most of her life. Mrs. Knowles loved to entertain and cook for guests. She enjoyed playing bridge and crabbing with her husband during the prime of her life in Delaware.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years; two sons, Richard and his wife Ann of Plymouth, N.H., and Robert and his wife Susan of Kittery; two brothers, Joffrey Majors of Allen, Texas, and Joel Majors of Garland, Texas; two granddaughters, Terry Diefenbach and Julie Knowles; two great-grandchildren, Brooke and Morgan Diefenbach.
She was predeceased by a son, Randall Knowles; an infant daughter, Ann Lillian; two sisters, Ann and Agnes; and a brother, Wendell Majors.
