1917 – 2004
AUBURN – George A. Wormwood, Jr., 85, of Auburn, died Friday, Feb. 27, at his home.
Born in Haverhill, Mass., March 1, 1917, the son of George A. Sr. and Fannie Sargent Wormwood, he graduated from Haverhill High School in 1936.
He was a shoe machinist at Commonwealth Shoe and Leather Co. in Whitman, Mass., and later at Keiser-Roth in Lewiston. He faithfully served his country during World War II in the Coast Guard and later in the U.S. Navy.
He married Verna Stevens on Nov. 23, 1946. He was a lifetime member of the DAV, a life long duck hunter and outdoorsman. His family called him a “jack-of-all-trades.” He was a member of the Minot Corner Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Auburn; a daughter, Linda Robicheau and her husband, Peter of Naples; a son, George III and his wife, Helen of Otisfield; three grandchildren, Katie Bean and her husband, Rodney, Haley Wormwood and Steven Robicheau; a great-grandson, Rodney George Bean; a brother, Wesley of Lexington Park, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
