1921 – 2003

LEWISTON – Claire A. Pierce, 82, formerly of Mechanic Falls, died Thursday, Dec. 18, at Central Maine Medical Center. She had been a resident of Clover Living Center.

She was born in Auburn, June 9, 1921, the daughter of Willis and Edith Norton Annis. She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1939 and attended Auburn Maine School of Commerce. She was a clerical worker at the Durgin Agency in Lewiston for nine years. She later worked at Pearly’s Garage, and then Warren’s Repair Shop, both in Mechanic Falls.

She was married July 4, 1941 to Pearl E. Duchette, her first husband, who died March 5, 1957.

She was a member of United Methodist Church in Auburn and enjoyed birds, knitting, hunting, fishing, cooking and the ocean.

She is survived by one son, Bruce M. Pierce and his wife Arlene of Auburn; a step-daughter, Anita Hakala and her husband Wayne of Greenwood; a step-son, Royden Pierce of Mechanic Falls; a great-granddaughter, Laura Duchette of New York; two step grandchildren, Keith Pierce of Minot, and Heidi Masselli and her husband Dave of Auburn; four step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Barker and her husband Edward, and Dorothy Andrews, all of Auburn; also nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by a daughter who died at birth; a son, Paul E. Duchette Sr.; and a grandson, Paul E. Duchette Jr.
