WEST PARIS – Earle Stephens “Spike: Noyes, 90, of Church Street, Bryant Pond, died Sunday Dec. 14, at Ledgeview Living Center.

He was born in Woodstock on July 20, 1913, a son of Winfield and Maud Stephens Noyes. He graduated from Woodstock High school in 1931 and from the Maine Barber School in 1938.

Earle was a barber for 49 years in Woodstock and also was a substitute mail carrier for 36 years out of the West Paris and Bryant Pond offices.

He had also worked in the woods, Stowell, Mann’s and EL Tebbetts Mills as well as the South Portland Shipyard where he worked on the Liberty ships.

Mr. Noyes also served as the town tax collector for several years.

He was the last charter member of the Woodstock Volunteer Fire Department, a life member of the Woodstock Historical Society and a former member of the Knights of Pythias and the Grange. He loved hunting, fishing, and going to camp in Grafton.

He married Louisa Swan on June 25, 1938.

He is survived by: his wife of 65 years; two daughters, Denise Swan and her husband, Hugh, of Greenwood and Elena Noyes of Bryant Pond; three grandchildren, Brent Swan and his wife, Barbara, of Florida, Ross Swan and his wife, Becky, of Bethel, and Melanie Ellsworth and her husband, Warren, of Greenwood; four great-grandchildren, Corey and Ashley Swan of Bethel, and Naomi and Sadie Ellsworth of Greenwood.
