WEST PARIS — The Board of Selectmen voted Thursday to accept $10,000 from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation for the Arthur L. Mann Memorial Library, according to David MacDowell, chairman of the West Paris Library board of trustees.
MacDowell said the money will go toward a new roof and repair of the flashing surrounding the roof. He said the roof has periodically leaked for years.
Selectmen also accepted a $15,000 grant from the Belvedere Historic Preservation Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.
MacDowell said the grant will go toward repairing masonry on the upper section of the library’s tower and walls.
The library has embrasures carved into the top of the building giving it a castle-like look, MacDowell said.
“The trustees have both a duty and obligation to see that this building, now over 90 years old, is preserved and maintained so that it may continue to serve the people of West Paris and surrounding towns,” MacDowell said.
The project is scheduled to be completed next June, he said.
