1918 – 2003
AUGUSTA – Harriet T. (Hattie) Small, 85, of Farmington, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 18, in Augusta, following a difficult battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Farmington, Sept. 29, 1918, the daughter of Roy M. Small and Edna (Dyer) Small, she attended Farmington schools, graduating from Farmington High School in 1936.
She was employed for many years at the J.J. Newberry Co. as a salesperson, where she enjoyed her customers and took pride in assisting them pleasantly. At that time she was an active member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Farmington.
As long as she was able to live in Farmington, she was a faithful member of and worker at the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church. She was always involved in adult Sunday school and was active in the Philathlea class. She volunteered her energies by helping at the monthly “Cares Luncheons,” which were available to all in the community.
She liked to read and was never without a sweater-in-progress, as she was a talented knitter. The sweaters were greatly appreciated by her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
She was predeceased by four sisters, Esther Small of Winthrop, Ada McGee and Ernestine Campbell of Lewiston and Barbara Owen of Memphis, Tenn.; and three brothers; Clifton Small of Farmington, Rev. Royal Small of Pearce, Ariz., and Lester Small, who was killed in action in World War II.
