1941 – 2003

LEWISTON – Janet Rae Knowlton, 62, of Oak St. in Greene, died Monday afternoon, Nov. 10, at Central Maine Medical Center with her family by her side.

She was born in Wilton June 9, 1941, a daughter of Watt and Eldora (Young) Gillespie. She grew up in Wilton with her parents, a sister, Doris and a brother, Doug. She was educated in Wilton schools and graduated from Wilton Academy.

She worked in banking and spent 15 years with Androscoggin Bank. After retiring from the bank, she spent several years doing the gardening and landscaping for Woolworth Estates in Monmouth. She was a member of The Greene Bi-Centennial committee and in her free time she greatly enjoyed cooking for her family, doing various crafts, including those with dried flowers, gardening and arranging flowers and spending time with her 13 grandchildren.

She leaves her husband, Paul Knowlton of Greene whom she married June 16, 1978; two daughters, Kim Jones and husband Randy of Buckfield and Lori Mellon and husband Bob of North Monmouth; two sons, Shawn Castner and wife Lynne of North Livermore and Greg Knowlton and wife Raylene of North Monmouth; 13 grandchildren, Levi, Lacey, Katie, Jared, Cain, Hunter, Morgan, Britton, Jacob, Garett, Emilee, Kelsey and Kennedi; and one sister, Doris Winter of Jay.

She was predeceased by her parents; and brother, Doug Gillespie.
