1921 – 2003
AUBURN – Dr. Frederick B. Lidstone, 82, of Gloucester Hill Road, New Gloucester, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, at his son’s home in Auburn.
Dr. Lidstone was born Sept. 1, 1921, in Worcester, Mass., to Reginald D. and Jennie M. (Griffin) Lidstone. He attended Clark University and Tufts Medical School.
He married Priscilla Phillips in September of 1949. “Fred” taught his wife to cook and she taught him to fish. They raised five children. The Lidstones moved to Auburn in 1956, where he joined the practice of Dr. John James. Together they delivered countless babies and cared for many of the community’s women. “Fred” retired in 1982.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing with his boys and grandchildren, time at the family camp, Rustico and was always ready for a big family meal. He often traveled with friends. Most recently he enjoyed playing bridge and poker, attending men’s breakfast every Tuesday morning at the New Gloucester Congregational Church and Thursday lectures at the local hospitals.
He was a member of High Street Congregational Church and on the board of the Auburn Home for Aged Women. He also belonged to Taylor Pond Yacht Club.
He is survived by his children, Robert and his wife, Jean of Lancaster, Mass., Kenneth and his wife, Helen of Hampton, N.H., David and his wife, Jane of Auburn, Janet Theriault and her husband, Ed of Auburn and Fred and his wife, Kim also of Auburn; grandchildren, Sarah, Elizabeth, Abigail, Bradley, Trista, Eric, Matthew, Daniel and William Lidstone and Nathan and Zoe Theriault; one sister, Dorothy Coleman of Kennebunk; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Priscilla; and his granddaughter, Heather Theriault.
