1910 – 2003
LEWISTON – Gladys R. Keene, 92, of the Odd Fellows Home in Auburn, died early Tuesday morning, Sept. 30, at Central Maine Medical Center surrounded by her family.
She was born in Auburn Nov. 27, 1910, a daughter of George and Alice (Steele) Hall. She was educated in local schools and remained a lifelong Auburn resident. In 1928 she married Gerald E. Keene who passed away in July of 1968.
Mrs. Keene worked 40 years for W.S. Libbey Co. as a textile worker until her retirement in the 1970’s. She had been a member Sixth St. Congregational Church and enjoyed doing word searches, crocheting and spending fun times with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandson.
She leaves a daughter, Barbara McFarland and husband Hugh of Portland; a daughter-in-law, Dolly Keene of Auburn; four grandchildren, Ronald and Becky Keene, Debbie Lalemand and Penny Arnold; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one brother, Frank Hall and his wife Margaret of St. Johnsbury, Vt.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald E. Keene; a son, Gerald H. Keene; two sisters, Isabella Thurston and Alice Martin; and one brother, George Hall.
