1935 – 2003

LEWISTON – John A. “Sonny” Capen II, 67, a resident of Lakeshore Drive, Leeds, and formerly of Auburn, died Friday, Sept. 19, at Central Maine Medical Center with his loving family at his side.

He was born in Auburn Nov. 26, 1935, the son of Roland F. and Lumina E. Cote Capen. He was educated in Auburn schools, graduating in 1955 from Edward Litle High School, and later from Central Maine Technical Trade School.

He married the former Joyce Burns on July. 7, 1957.

He had been employed as plant supervisor at Hamilton and Son, later as shop foreman at Bachmann Industries, and lastly as shop foreman at Wahlco Engineered Products.

He was coach for the Auburn Surburan Little Leage for eight years, and served as Cub Scout Master for four years.

An avid hunter, he enjoyed both bow and rifle hunting, as well as boating and fishing.

He loved his family and enjoyed doing all activities and sports with his grandchildren.

He leaves his wife, Joyce Capen, of Leeds; two daughters, Brenda L. Read and her husband Ralph of Minot, and Maureen H. Trainor and her companion Mark Mason of Minot; two sons, John A. Capen III and his wife Beth of Leeds, and David C. Capen and his wife Tammy of Minot; seven grandchildren, Rayleen and Raymond Gauthier, John A. Capen IV, Catherine Capen, Kristen Capen, Nachole Hardmen, and David Capen Sterns; six sisters, Alice Emma Holt and her husband Robert of Sabattus, Nancy Lindgren and her husband Robert of Jay, Jeannette Menard and her husband Paul of Brunswick, Arlene Lizotte of Sacramento, Calif., Rolande Poulin and her husband Bert of Auburn, and Priscilla Haskell and her husband Milton of Deer Isle; a brother, Lloyd Capen and his wife Marge of Deer Isle; plus many nieces and nephews.
