1912 – 2003

AUBURN – Constance E. Davis Bickford, 91, of the Stetson Road passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, at her residence following a long illness.

She was born at Walnut Hill, North Yarmouth on Jan. 19. 1912, the daughter of Herbert F. and Jenettie (Watson) Davis.

She attended schools in North Yarmouth and Auburn, graduated from Edward Little High School in 1930, then on to the Auburn Maine School of Commerce where she learned secretarial skills.

She was employed in the field of education for many years, she retired in 1976. Mrs. Bickford lived in the Auburn and Lewiston area for most of her life.

During the summers, she would stay at her camp in Popham Beach. She was a member of the Court Street Baptist Church, the “Young at Heart” Senior Citizens Group, she enjoyed lessons in art under the instruction of Charles McMurphy, and was a former president of the “Young at Hearts Club”.

She was also a member of the Maine Teachers Association, National Education Association, The Maine Retired Teachers Association and was a member of the Phippsburg Historical Society.

She is survived by one son, Bruce C. Bickford and wife Rebecca of Lisbon Falls; one brother, Richard G. Davis of Lewiston; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by one brother, Herbert Franklin Davis; and three sisters, Grace E. Davis, Muriel Davis White, Shirley Davis Schneider.
