1914 – 2003
AUBURN – George E. Barlow, 88, of 30 Carson St., Auburn died Monday, July 14, at Clover Manor after a long illness.
Born Dec. 16, 1914, in Saugus, Mass., he was the son of James E. and Violet Hadden Barlow. Educated in Lynn, Mass., schools as a youth he worked summers at Poland Spring Hotel and raced his beloved Harley Davidson motorcycles.
A loyal employee of General Electric Co., for 33 years, he retired in 1976 as manager of GE Small Appliance Service Center of Portland, Ore.
Remembered by family and friends as “Mr. Fix-it”, he was an accomplished, self taught handyman who could build, install, or repair almost anything. He was a proud member of the Portland, Oregon, Auxiliary Police and of the Optimist Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Elsie E. Bottcher McCreery whom he married May 7, 1966; two sons, George E. Barlow Jr., and his wife Angie of Fallbrook, Calif., and David Barlow of Watsonville, Calif.; six stepchildren, Sheri Olstein and her husband Joel of Auburn, Denine Warner and her husband Rex of Orlando, Fla., Dennis McCreery and his wife Paula of Portland, Ore., Jerry McCreery and his wife Jackie of Harbor City, Calif., Donald McCreery and his fiancé, Mercedes of Sierra Madre, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Jimmy, Mickey, and Toppy, as well as one sister, Virginia Walsh all from Massachusetts.
