1912 – 2003
RUMFORD – Evelyn W. McCann, 91, of 188 Maine Ave., Rumford, died Tuesday evening, July 8, at her home with her family by her side.
She was born in Mount Vernon, Feb. 6, 1912, a daughter of Waldo G. and Grace Mae Wells White. She was educated in Mt. Vernon schools and graduated from Edward Little High School as Valedictorian of her Class in 1931.
In 1936 she married Arthur A. McCann in Farmington and he died in March of 1991. She lived in New Vineyard from 1936 to 1941 and worked at the Smith Mill during that time. She then moved to Rumford in 1941 and worked for Diamond National until her retirement in 1976.
Mrs. McCann was a member of St. Athanasius – St. John’s Parish, and the Eagle’s Club. She enjoyed reading, special times with family and friends, taking day trips by car, and had a great fondness for her cats, “Mitsy” and “Smokey” and her dog, “Holly.”
She leaves three sisters, June Leighton and husband Ervin of Mount Vernon, Bessie Hill and husband Milton of Norwich, Conn., Joan Wight of Livermore Falls; two brothers, Gary White and his wife Marjorie of Jay, Theron White of Meridian, Miss.; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a sister, Marion W. Goucher on Dec. 16, 1979.
