SOUTH RUMFORD – Vincent P. “Porky” Gallant, 77, of Wyman Hill Road, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 7, at his residence.

“Porky” was born on June 19, 1927, in Rumford, the son of Vincent P. and Olive (Arsenault) Gallant.

He was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.

He was employed for 40 years with the former Boise Cascade Paper Co. in Rumford. He was a communicant of St. Athanasius St. John Catholic Church.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Edna M. Arsenault Gallant of South Rumford; one son, Jeffrey Paul Gallant of Rumford; a daughter, Kathleen A. Fuller and husband Calvin of Rumford; three sisters, Isabelle Fergola and husband, Anthony of Mexico, Pauline Garbotz of Mexico and Bernadette “Bunny” Marchetti of Jay; five grandchildren, Kelly, Joshua, Jennifer, Jeremey and Vanessa; two great-grandchildren, Victoria and Blake.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Philip, Robert and Albert.
