PORTLAND – Lt. Col. John C. Antonik, USAF Ret., 85, formerly of Lisbon Falls, who, up until now, resided with Joanne and Vincent Connolly of Falmouth, passed away peacefully on Aug. 9.
He was born on May 9, 1919, and was raised in Belleville, N.J., son of John and Leontyna Antonik.
After retiring from the Air Force, he began a second career in social services. He worked for the State of Maine Department of Human Services in vocational rehabilitation. He also administered assisted service programs for the blind in Portland and Augusta.
On June 5, 1949, Mr. Antonik married Anna Opansuk, of Nutley N.J., after a long courtship. Together they raised three children, Michael, Tom and Joanne. Ann died in 1988.
Mr. Antonik loved the outdoors, cooking, and was a talented wood carver. He especially enjoyed carving water fowl and hunting decoys.
Mr. Antonik is survived by his three children, Michael, of Cumberland Center, Tom, of Portland, and Joanne (Antonik) and Vincent Connolly, of Falmouth; nieces and nephews, Irene Ward, of Wyoming, Mary Pomfret, of England, Chris Antonik, of Delaware, Kitty Antonik Wakfer, of Toronto and Arizona, Walter Antonik, of New Jersey, and Susan Strat, of New Jersey.
