NORWAY – Edna Smith Hodsdon, 83, of Norway died peacefully Friday evening Friday, Aug. 6, at the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center.

She was born Nov. 24, 1920, in Berlin, N.H., the daughter of Chester P. Sr. and Maude Given Smith. She was educated in Stow, and attended Monmouth Academy. During that time she lived with her Aunt Hattie Given.

She married Philip E. Hodsdon on May 9, 1939, in Lovell.

In her early years, she worked as a cashier in local Bridgton stores, worked on many Ridge Hall and Masonic Lodge suppers, was a lifetime member of the Pondicherry Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Edna also had a great love for birds, flowers, and her vegetable garden.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all her neighbors on the Highland Ridge Road. She was always ready to lend a helping hand.

She is survived by two sons, Paul Hodsdon and his wife Lucille of Norway, and Erwin Hodsdon and his wife Joyce of Harrison; two sisters, Marion Russell of Limerick, and Colleen Boewe of Conway, N.H.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Philip, in 1982; a brother, Chester P. Smith Jr., in 1994; a sister, Thelma Eldridge in 1996; and grandsons, Peter, Philip, Patrick, and Paul Hodsdon, in 1971.
