PORTLAND – Noreen A. Hubner, 70, of Brentwood Street, died peacefully Saturday at her residence surrounded by her children and her friend Sandra Drago.

She was born in Lewiston, the daughter of Thomas E. and Gertrude Ginchereau Johnson. She attended local schools and was a 1952 graduate of Lewiston High School. In 1955, she received her diploma from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing; went on to pursue her bachelors degree at Loretta Heights College in Colorado, and her masters degree at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

On Feb. 5, 1966, she married John M. Hubner.

Mrs. Hubner was a psychiatric nursing professional. An educator, administrator and mentor for nearly 50 years, she retired from Spring Harbor Hospital in 2002. As an instructor, she was on the faculties of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, University of Southern Maine, St. Joseph’s College Maine and Westbrook College.

In her youth she was an avid athlete who particularly enjoyed golf and downhill skiing. Throughout her life, Mrs. Hubner was an ardent supporter of Little League and school athletic booster associations. She was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing and loved reading mystery novels, gardening and birding.

Her husband Mike died in August, 2002. Mrs. Hubner was also predeceased by her brother, Thomas Johnson.

Survivors include her son, Michael F. Hubner and his wife Keri of Standish; three daughters, Katherine “Kit” Hubner and her husband Nate Orshan of Burlington, Vt., Margaret “Peggy” Hubner of Portland, Suzanne T. Hubner of Augusta, Ga.; and two grandsons, Garrett Hubner of Standish, and Tommy Joyce Hubner of Portland.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
