DIXFIELD – Walter L. “Butch” Marston Jr., 59, died Sunday, April 25, after a long battle with cancer and his family by his side, at his home on Newton Avenue.

He was born in Rumford, on Dec. 18, 1944, a son of Walter L. and Maureen E. (Brown) Marston, and had attended Mexico schools.

He served with the U.S. Navy as an Airman E-3 from Jan. 26, 1965 to Dec. 18, 1967.

“Butch” had worked as a foreman at Forster’s Manufacturing in Wilton for a time and then at Sunday River in Newry as a mechanic for over 16 years.

He was a true family man. He enjoyed camping trips with his wife and daughters, and later with his wife and grandchildren. He loved birdwatching, woodworking, fishing, gardening, and auctioning items on e-Bay. He liked to watch the Patriots, Red Sox, and Brandon play ball.

He was a strong man, who fought bravely in his battle against cancer. He leaves behind a legacy of love, respect, and strength for all those who loved him, and all those whose lives he touched.

He was married in Rumford, on June 18, 1966 to the former Lorelei “Lolly” Freeman who survives of Dixfield.

Other survivors include three daughters, Lisa Jacques and husband Norman of Rumford, Leah Marston of Dixfield, and Wanda Marston and fianc Patrick Friel of Rumford; four brothers, Garry Marston and wife Val of Mexico, Steve Marston and wife Sue of Rumford, Neil Marston and wife June of Mexico, and Rick Marston and wife Denise of Rumford; a sister, Shelly Tripp and husband Donald of Peru; five grandchildren, Megan Blood and Miriah Patterson of Dixfield, Brandon Jacques, Joseph Caruso and Luann Fournier all of Rumford.
