DIXFIELD – Ruth A. Swan, 91, of Canton Point Rd., Dixfield, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at her home with her family by her side.
She was born in Dixfield on June 28, 1913, the daughter of Delmont and Nellie (Woodcock) Adams. A lifelong resident of Dixfield, she attended Dixfield schools graduating in 1931.
On May 26, 1933, she married John R. Swan, who died on April 9, 1990.
She worked several years as a cook for the Dixfield school system. She later went to work at Stowell MacGregor in Dixfield, retiring in 1978.
Ruth was a member of the Dixfield Common Baptist Church and the Dixfield Senior Citizens.
She enjoyed visits from family and friends, rides in the county and watching the birds and chipmunks, which she fed. She loved cooking to share with family, friends and neighbors. She was well known for her hard work and kindness to others; a true example the of Proverbs 31 lady, “let her own works praise her.”
She is survived by her son, Royal and his wife, Brenda, of Dixfield; a grandson, Todd, and his wife, Becky, of Duluth, Ga.; a granddaughter, Christa DeVega, and her husband, Damian, of New London, Conn.; five great-grandchildren, Brittany, Isaiah, Elizabeth and Elijah Swan and Alexander DeVega; a sister, Eleanor Bouffard, of Madison; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Irene Lemar, and a brother, Stanley Adams.
