LEWISTON – Carl “The Gook” Dimino, 79, of 15 Park St., Lisbon died Monday, May 3, at C.M.M.C.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., June 7, 1924, a son of Luigi and Marianna Sabella Dimino he attended Brooklyn, N.Y., schools.

He was married to the former Hazel Fae Faultersack May 18, 1961. She died Jan. 17, 2000.

He entered the U.S. Navy right after high school in January of 1943 serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.

He retired after 30 years of service as Senior Chief Petty Officer. He participated in the serial flight from December of 1944 to July of 1945. He retired from Fasotragrulant Det in Brunswick. He was certified as a Mobile Survival Trainer. During his last tour of duty he was an instructor for (SERE) Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape.

During his tenure he received Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal (Ninth Award), American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Medal for Humane Action, Navy Occupational Service Medal (with European Clasp and Berlin Airlift Device), National Defense Service Medal, and Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

He loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed attending church at Holy Trinity in Lisbon Falls, square dancing with the former Zip Zip Squares, feeding outside birds, swimming and gardening.

He is survived by his daughters, Lori Dimino Robert and her husband Mark of Greene, Patricia McCutcheon of Old Orchard Beach; seven grandchildren, Jim, Adrianne, Sandy, Jennifer, David, Matthew and Sharron; seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Vincent (Jimmy) Dimino of Spring Hill, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
