Kudos to Sheryl Briggs. A copy of her guest column (Oct. 1) should be sent to every member of Congress. She really hit the nail on the head.
On another note, I wish to comment on part of Gail Eveland’s letter to the editor in that same edition.
First, President Donald Trump has done little except to send out many tweets of a derogatory nature to many fine people and organizations. He has also tweeted about his staff in a less than nice way. He should have private meetings to discuss his negative feelings of their performance, not broadcast them to the world. Also, he could get the U.S. into a nuclear war by his disgraceful tweets to North Korea leader Kim Jong Un.
Trump disgraces the office that he holds.
As for Obamacare — does Eveland wish to see 20 million or more people without medical insurance? Does she wish to see 300,000 children at risk? And does she want to see higher health insurance premiums for many? That last effort the Republicans tried to get passed would have led to all those possibilities. Why does she think Obamacare is hurting so many?
No, I don’t say “thank heaven for Donald Trump.” I say heaven help us.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
