WHITEFIELD – Daniel “Duffy” Maguire, 63, died suddenly Saturday, Oct 2, at his home.

He was born in Farmington on Aug 3, 1941, a son of Edward “Mickey” and Elizabeth Fournier Maguire.

While growing up in Farmington, Duffy could be found working at his dad’s variety store, delivering newspapers, skiing at Titcomb Mountain, or playing whatever sport was in season. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1959.

After graduating, he attended St. Francis Xavier College in Canada for two years, where he was a member of the football team. He transferred to Farmington State Teachers College and left to serve in the United States Air Force for four years.

While in the Air Force, Duffy married his wife of 40 years, Gail Marble, in 1964. After serving his country, he returned to Farmington State Teachers College, graduating in 1968.

His first teaching position was at Erskine Academy in South China, He also taught in Benton, Damariscotta, Bristol, Bremen, and the last 15 years in Jefferson.

He was a loving husband, caring father, grandfather, and dedicated educator.

He is survived by his wife, Gail Marble Maguire, of Whitefield; sons, Shawn Maguire and his wife, Helena, of Georgetown, Mass., Brandon Maguire and his wife, Rebecca (with child,) of Taipei, Taiwan, and Riley Maguire of Shanghai, China; his daughter, Mandy T. Maguire of Albany, N.Y.; brothers, Edward T. Maguire Jr. of Washington State, Barry Maguire and his wife, Lynn, of Wilton; sister-in-law, Bonnie Maguire, of Searsmont; grandchildren, David Daniel Maguire, Olivia Maguire, Connor Maguire, and Aidan Maguire; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brother, Gregory Maguire, in 1995; and one sister, Patricia K. Maguire, in 1990.
