BANGOR – Marvin F. Gierhan, 74, died May 16 at a local hospital.

He was born in Gresham, Neb., Feb. 15, 1930 the son of Otto and Esther (Schuknecht) Gierhan. He retired from the Maine Air National Guard as a MSGT after 29 years serving in the Procurement Dept. He was a member of the Orono American Legion. He was an active member and founder of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bangor.

He enjoyed coaching bowling, golf and softball and his many trips visiting friends and family throughout the United States.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Frances (Berry) Gierhan of Bangor; two sons, James of Bangor and Bill and wife, Peggy of Auburn; one daughter, Mary Jean Gierhan of Winthrop; two grandsons, Derek and Ian of Auburn; one granddaughter, Carrie of Holden; one great-granddaughter, Emilie of Holden; two brothers, Eldon and wife, Dorean of Colo., Wilmer and wife, Lynette of Neb. and one uncle, Ernest Gierhan of Neb.

He was predeceased by one sister, Rogene Kohtz.
