SOUTH PARIS — Robert Eugene Smith, 85, of South Paris, passed away Friday, Oct. 20, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born in Oxford on Sept. 2, 1932, the son of Harry and Aurena Blair Smith. He attended Oxford schools and faithfully served our country in the U.S. Army. Robert married Maxine Jackson on May 31, 1961. He had been employed at Robinson Manufacturing for 44 years.
In his younger years he played baseball on the town teams. He was a familiar face at the Oxford Walmart to have coffee; he liked being social. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandson. He was an avid Red Sox fan.
He is survived by his wife of South Paris; his children, Jenny Withey, Joanne Smith, Sally Smith and John Judkins and Bill Smith; grandchildren, Cindy Walker, Michael Withey, Catie Witham and Kane Smith; a great-grandson, Declin Witham; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Faye Smith; and his cat, Tippy.
He was predeceased by brothers, Harry and John.
