On Feb. 13, the Sun Journal published an editorial cartoon depicting a couple shopping in a store with large banners proclaiming discounts of 80, 85 and 90 percent off. The woman turns to her husband and says, “I think we should wait a little longer.”
Does the Sun Journal find it funny that people have to put off purchases until retailers have to sell their goods at distressed prices? Will the newspaper be offering subscriptions and advertising rates at deep discounts soon?
People and businesses are suffering, and the Sun Journal publishes a cartoon that can only hurt business and make humor of the plight of the readers.
As an employee of a company that spends a small fortune in advertising with the Sun Journal, I have to wonder: What was the editor thinking? With the Internet, TV and radio to advertise with, the message of “wait a while” to customers was a poor choice.
The paper’s current “Money saving tips” column is very timely and well-done.
The cartoon was very insensitive to the struggles of readers, and harmful to advertisers.
Jeers to the Sun Journal.
