As a fan, former coach, and parent to two student-athletes, I have either been part of, or participated in, hundreds of sporting events over the years. On Feb. 3 at the Edward Little High School gymnasium, I, along with hundreds of others, witnessed a once-in-a-lifetime event – two groups of people gave a gifted student athlete, Joshua Titus, a night that he will hold in his heart for the rest of his life.

Leavitt High School Coach Mike Hathaway, his coaching staff, the boys’ basketball team, and all of their fans are true class acts. They showed what true sportsmanship is all about. I have never – I repeat never – witnessed anything even close to what I saw that night. There probably wasn’t a single dry eye in the gym, and they were the big reason why.

EL Coach Mike Adams, his coaching staff, athletic director Dan Deshaies, the boys’ basketball team, and all of the fans gave me a memory that will never be duplicated.

I am proud to be an ELHS graduate, and and even prouder to be a part of the ELHS basketball program. Adams is also a true class act, and whatever the 2008-2009 ELHS boys’ basketball team achieves during the rest of this season is just icing on the cake.

They reached the pinnacle that night.
