Recycling saves taxpayers money. Recycling helps save resources. We must increase recycling as we are doing only about 7-10 percent now. Other towns are doing 30 percent or more.

Teachers in schools can help by educating students. The students then can go home and get their parents to recycle.

People just moving to Lewiston can call the Lewiston recycling facility on River Road. If a resident’s blue recycling bin has been broken by a vehicle while on the side of the road, it can be replaced. If people can’t go get the bin, a bin can be delivered. If for some reason someone can’t get a bin, he should call his city councilor, the mayor or city administrator.

At present there are about 500 unused recycling bins at the recycling facility. Of course, if they don’t go out to the people, then they won’t get used. The bins are free, paid for by taxes. Even people living in apartments should recycle. Any tax saved is a saving to the landlord and, in turn, may help in keeping a rent lower.

Recycling saves the environment, and the items are sold.

Maybe the nice sign in front of the high school could have a small recycling statement in it. Students and traffic would see it.
