The letter to the editor by Timothy Priestly Jan. 7 was comical. He obviously fails to accept the fact the Democrat-controlled Congress had a 9 percent approval rating and was the most partisan in U.S. history. So partisan they excluded the elected Republican representatives from important legislative panels.

Even the $1 trillion stimulus package was forged by Democrats only at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s direction in concert with the “Office of the President-elect” – another Democratic joke.

Here in Maine, Democrats have controlled the Legislature for 35 years, passing simple majority budgets again excluding elected Republicans from the process, forcing emergency supplemental budgets year after year.

So when Priestly writes, “Elected officials must come together for the betterment of society and sincerely attempt to forge agreements that will provide effective governance instead of partisan victories,” he should direct his comments to the Democratic party.
