I read with interest Jonathan LaBonte’s column Dec. 14 on the differences between Brunswick and Lewiston-Auburn traffic. Quite simply, Lewiston-Auburn drivers are some of the most aggressive and discourteous drivers that I have seen outside of large cities such as Boston, New York or even Los Angeles.

This past fall, my wife and I completed a 15,000-mile cross-country trip on the nation’s back roads. We went through many cities and towns no larger than L-A. We never encountered the lack of consideration for other drivers, pedestrians, or disregard for the law, as we experience here daily.

Red lights and stop signs mean stop.

Speed limit signs are there for a reason, not just something the public works department throws up to spend money; and 25 mph means 25 mph in good dry weather and good visibility, not 35 mph when the streets are an ice rink with no visibility.

California recently enacted a no hand-held cell phone law. If California can do it and enforce it, Maine can also.

We have lived in the area for nearly 20 years and probably the thing I dislike most about L-A are its drivers.
