Ron Foss’ letter to the editor Nov. 26 prompted me to write in response to “facts” that have been published recently in the Sun Journal. It seems to me that if the writer isn’t verifying his facts, then maybe the Sun Journal should.

With regard to yellowcake uranium in Iraq, a quick check on factcheck.org showed me that claim was shown to be false. In fact, the yellowcake described in Foss’ letter had been guarded and in sealed containers since the end of the first Gulf War. I did find it amusing, though, that now the “operation” has a name.

I can recall recently seeing letters making erroneous claims about the president-elect’s religion and citizenship, among other claims. The repeated publishing of these unsubstantiated lies, rumors and innuendo without proper vetting does little to inform the public.
