As I drove up to South Paris recently, I noticed that many “Yes on 2” signs were still littering the roadside, symbolic of another misguided attempt to find a way to support Maine in this complex 21st century. If campaign officials can’t be bothered to take down their signs, would they have bothered to clean up any other mess their casino might have created?

Green energy appears to present a totally positive opportunity for Maine. The Yankee ingenuity, work ethic, trained workers, naturally conserving mind-set – all those support the replacement for the well-paying jobs the state has lost.

Providing affordable health care for all (attracts businesses and raises both morale and well-being of workers), reforming the state’s tax structure so it more fairly reflects ability to pay, supporting the kinds of education which nurture creativity, and making decent, energy-efficient housing affordable are steps the Maine community and leaders must take to provide life as it should be.
