I read, with a degree of reservation, a letter to the editor published Aug. 9 titled “Suggestion for the Park.” I have no doubt that the author in question has his heart in the right place, and is a great American.

I was the veteran responsible for having the Heritage Park renamed after veterans. I fail to see a reason to have this beautiful park renamed from Veterans Memorial Park. Many flags are flown there, American flags at their proper height and others that depict the branches of the armed services, including POWs and MIAs, flown at a lower level.

Some people, as I have witnessed on some occasions, do place some small flags near the monument bearing the names of their loved ones. This is done out of emotion for their loved ones, as one might understand for their deep feelings, but one does not have to be a deceased veteran.

Veterans Memorial Park is an insurance policy that says veterans of yesterday, today and tomorrow will never be forgotten nor erased from the lips of future generations.

The main monument for all to see is the largest in the park and one of the first to be erected for all times. Many more will be erected.

In this beautiful Veterans Memorial Park are the words “the price of freedom” and “Veterans Memorial Park” for all to see. One complements the other on the larger monument.
