While visiting in Lewiston, recently, my beautiful, all-white cat bolted from my arms and I have not seen her since. I have put out posters (some of which have been torn down) and placed an ad in the Sun Journal.

The animal control officer told me that he has no traps to catch a cat because when he used to put them out, people would steal them. When a cat, or other animal, is captured in the humane traps, the officer takes the animal to the shelter where it would be treated, owners located if it has a locator chip (mine does), nursed back to health when needed, and those whose owners cannot be found are put up for adoption to other caring families.

The animal control officer needs his tools, so that cats can be captured and returned, just like dogs and other animals.

The city of Lewiston needs to help its animal control officer and give him what he needs to do his job. If traps are what is needed, they should be provided, even if they have to be somehow anchored to avoid theft.
