This is in response to Larry Hawley’s letter, published June 26. I am always a little skeptical of someone who tells someone else’s story.
If a person is being treated in a manner that he feels is unfair, then that person has an obligation to himself to speak out and ask for help.
I am not trying to lessen the man’s situation, however, from my own experience, I received a great deal of help from the office of Sen. Susan Collins, here in Lewiston.
Our senators and congressmen are charged with the duty of helping the citizens they represent. Most attorneys who handle Social Security cases will do so by taking a part of the retroactive money paid to the claimant only if they win the case.
This is an election year. Politicians are even more willing than usual to help out.
I received my verdict within three weeks of seeing Sen. Collins’ aide.
