This is in response to George Gowell’s letter April 12 regarding motorcycle exhaust noise.

I disagree with his assessment of the noise level – a Harley with straight pipes is much, much louder than any metric bike with pipes. The comparison isn’t even close.

And as far as the 4-wheel-drive trucks with turbo-flow exhaust … again, in reality, there is no comparison.

I don’t know why he was getting a ticket by the side of the road when a metric bike came by, but a quiet exhaust probably wasn’t the issue.

I bet if the fine for loud bikes (of any kind) was $1,000 instead of the piddling figure that it is now, summer would be much more enjoyable.
