Kudos to the Sun Journal for printing two firearms-related articles in the March 9 edition. It was refreshing to see positive discussion given to this issue.
I believe the tide is turning, and good people are beginning to question the wisdom of the “gun-free zone.”
Our nation’s colleges and universities are not really gun free. If they were, madmen such as the shooters at Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois University would not have been able to shoot dozens of people.
Gun-free zones are only gun free for the law abiding. Why should college students who hold valid concealed weapon permits be forced to be victims in class, when they can protect themselves everywhere else?
The failure of the gun-free zone has been proven time and time again. It is time that the Maine Legislature does something to ban these victim-rich killing zones and allow Maine’s concealed weapon permit holders to carry anywhere and everywhere in the state.
I also thank the Sun Journal for writing about shooting sports in a positive light. It was refreshing to read about guns and shooting in the Sun Journal, and for it not to be made out as something to be ashamed of.
