On Tuesday, Aug. 21, voters will be going for our second round to vote for the Jay School Budget. Has the budget been lowered? It depends on how the voters will look at it. $110,000 dollars has been taken off the original budget, but without cuts.

The vote is very confusing. Do we still want to raise that large of an amount, without making cuts in the operation of the schools? We may be gambling with the voters to see if cuts need to be made.

School officials say that they are doing the best they can for the students. Let’s not forget that if Jay consolidates, Jay will be paying a lot more of the costs, according to a presentation at a recent school board meeting.

I believe this means our taxes will go up.

Al Landry, Jay
