Printing student letters from the Carrie Ricker Middle School (Nov. 12) was most appreciated. Those students show so much common sense and serious thinking on their parts. Many adults could take lessons from their observations. Their grammar and spelling also are to be congratulated, for them and their teacher.
In my many years of living and experiences, it has seemed to me more adults should really listen to their children. In fact, listening to others may reveal thoughtful and useable ways to make beter lives for all Americans.
In my youth, I was told not to reveal everything that happened in school. That is a mistake, as young people have a lot to learn and much is expected from them. They learn a lot from observation.
Instead of telling young adults to “sit down and shut up,” their opinions should be part of the conversation. Many times, they express wiser opinions than their elders.
I thank the Sun Journal for printing their letters – a very encouraging eye-opener regarding present-day students.
