100 years ago, 1917
The ticket sellers at the local theaters are earning their money like they never did before. Since the war tax was imposed, there is no more shoving back a nickel and a dime when a quarter is tendered for admission. Pennies have to be carefully counted out and returned also. Many people are considerate and have the exact change ready, but not all.

50 years ago, 1967
Lewiston businessman Raymond A. Geiger, editor of the Farmers’ Almanac, will appear Friday, Nov. 10, on the Mike Douglas television variety show. The show is seen locally at 12:30 p.m. on Channel 13. This will be Geiger’s seventh guest spot on the Douglas show and Friday he joins singers Tony Martin and Damita Jo and comedian Dick Shawn. Geiger was recently in New York for guest shots on the Monitor and CBS Dimension! radio programs.

25 years ago, 1992
Twin Cities voters Tuesday endorsed Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton as America’s next president, but residents of surrounding towns favored independent candidate H. Ross Perot. Incumbent Republican President George Bush trailed. With 52 percent of vote in for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, longtime incumbent Republican Rep. Olympia Snowe was squeezing out Democratic challenger Patrick McGowan, 47 percent to 43 percent. Green Party candidate Jonathan Carter garnered 9 percent.
