I have an issue about religion and politics.
Our priests are not allowed to mention politics in the pulpit. (Where is free speech?) They have to watch everything they say or lose their tax-exempt status. And yet, we are bombarded with telephone calls during every election, by people who work for politicians, who tell us who to vote for or which referendum to oppose and yes, even criticize our president. Right or wrong, he’s the boss.
The only thing our priests want to tell us is follow our conscience as Christians and not vote for people who are for abortion. (They don’t.) But we’re smart enough to know. Abortion is not religion, it’s murder and murder is a crime. Same as he would tell us not to commit adultery or kill anyone. He’s there to guide us and keep us on the right track.
When I was a child, I had to be told what to do, now I’m an adult and can think for myself. All the representatives have their life story on the paper; they say what they’ll do, but once in office, they do what they want and forget their promises.
I have better things to do than spend 10 to 15 minutes listening to someone gabbing in my ear about things that don’t interest me.
