On Sept. 19, I attended a meeting of the Small Property Owners of Auburn to listen to a presentation by the superintendent and assistant superintendent of the Auburn School Department. The presentation provided a master plan of future repairs and/or construction to our schools.

With the student population declining in Auburn, how much expansion do we need? Perhaps more rooms for the growing number of administrators.

I found it out of character to present this information to a select group before the city council and public. Their charts were full of inaccuracies and misinformation. Student enrollments were estimates and not the actual numbers, and prices by square footage varied from chart to chart.

When questioned about the information’s validity, they responded they were unsure why it was this way, but it would be expensive to get accurate information.

Since when does this school administration care so much about spending tax dollars?

Auburn looks affluent when looking at it from Turner, doesn’t it?

You have to wonder if the information they present at school committee meetings, or to the state when requesting additional funding, is as inaccurate as this presentation.

I would also like to know why when asked about alternative education, Superintendent Barbara Eretzian could not provide answers. She stated we would benefit more by having her husband, David Eretzian, speak at a future meeting. Who’s in charge of the Auburn School Department? With the salary the superintendent receives, I expect her to have answers.

Reginald Emery Sr., Auburn
