I went to Lewiston recently, and for the first time I remember, not one place sold gas cheaper than in Rumford! For years, big companies gouged prices in our area. They were the first to raise prices and the last to lower them. It was always cheaper to buy gas on the road.

I always felt if a small-business would make prices lower than the big honchos, the big guys would have to follow suit. Lo and behold, Mr. Breau proved my theory correct.

I’ve read plenty of letters to the editor over the years asking politicians to do something about Rumford’s gas prices. Breau is doing something, and I hope everyone supports him. Even if being a small-business means sometimes having higher prices, don’t forget who single-handily brought gas prices down. If we support him, he can probably continue to keep prices reasonable.

I hope if people need gas, a soda, sandwich, cigarettes or milk, they remember that small-business that has helped Rumford in a big way. He has watched our backs, now we need to watch his back.

The other morning, as I was leaving his store, I noticed his gas price was $2.18. I smiled and shook my head and thought “This guy is crazy.” He was having a “customer appreciation day.”

Thank you, Mr. Breau. I hope your business exceeds your wildest dreams. I hope you become a millionaire and have the last laugh. I’ll be laughing with you.
