Americans have had five years of disastrous misgoverning under President George W. Bush. We were lied into a causeless war in Iraq, from which we cannot extricate. We’ve incurred unprecedented debt while the rich profit and the poor get deeper in poverty. And we have religious bigots meddling in government. We are desperate for a change.

Chandler Woodcock has molded his policies on those of Bush. While I understand he was a good teacher and his girls’ basketball team won championships, I don’t believe this qualifies him to be Maine’s governor.

He wants to put religion into politics, and is against legal abortion. Also, by his Senate votes, he like Bush favors polluters, public health and big business over worker welfare.

Mr. Woodcock is not the right candidate for governor of the great state of Maine. Gov. John Baldacci has done a good job and deserves re-election.
