On Nov. 6, voters will be asked to make an important decision on tax control, namely the Taxpayer Bill of Rights. In the past, voters have been assured government leaders heard the people about tax reform – remember the tax cap and LD 1. I’m still waiting for the sound of my voice, and the power of my vote, to make it to Augusta.

People should not be fooled by slick talk again.

While TABOR doesn’t necessarily give people tax relief, it will help control spending in this state. That is an idea whose time has come.

Let’s look at who is against TABOR. Start with municipal employees, move onto school administrators, then onto elected officials. Don’t forget public safety folks and, oh yes, our current governor, John Baldacci.

Notice the common thread here? All those people do the massive spending TABOR seeks to control. TABOR is a threat to them because it would “Kill the goose that lays the golden tax dollar.”

If people ask questions, they will find the truth about TABOR is far different from what the opposition would have anyone believe. School budgets account for about 60 percent of the tax dollars. Failed programs from Augusta also weigh heavily. We can and must put a stop to it.

I’ll be voting yes on TABOR.
