Governments and nonprofits are feverishly trying to convince voters to defeat the Taxpayer Bill of Rights this November.
But people are being squeezed into hardship from uncontrolled taxation to support programs I believe are dysfunctional, and reward lazy citizens of our state and country.
Examples are being revealed in Auburn, and to some extent, in Lewiston.
At the Auburn City Council meeting on Sept. 18, a citizen group presented evidence of corrupt actions on the part of the council and other government leaders.
I never saw such squirming and fidgeting by the city manager as things were being uncovered by the citizens who spoke, citizens who have been speaking to city officials who are only interested in their agendas and think the people don’t know what is good for the city.
The more the city leaders have tried to quiet these folks, the more their suspicions have led them to dig deeper, and deeper. Don’t city officials understand that we still have freedom to hold government accountable because of freedom of information?
Some city officials wonder why people are fed up and beginning to revolt; in one poll, 70 percent stated they would vote for TABOR.
May the November election sweep clean Auburn’s city government, clean like a vacuum cleaner sucks things up, and may Lewiston residents follow suit. I’m sure Lewiston is equally dirty because politicians are politicians, are politicians, are politicians.
